Paralyzed Veterans of America, the nation’s foremost advocate for veterans with disabilities, has announced a new program to help support its mission: REVolution – Racing to Empower Veterans.

REVolution offers endurance runners the means to improve quality of life for paralyzed veterans while participating in an activity they enjoy. REVolution participants raise funds to support the organization’s free programs and services, including benefits assistance, employment counseling and research to find better treatments and a cure for paralysis.

“People across the country are eager to give back to our military heroes,” said Al Kovach, Jr., national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. “Paralyzed Veterans has been working on behalf of veterans with spinal cord injuries for nearly 70 years. Now, REVolution is one more way for able-bodied runner Americans to do something they love while supporting a cause they are passionate about: helping paralyzed veterans.”

“Racing to support paralyzed veterans was an easy choice,” said Allen Richardson, who is currently raising funds to run the Marine Corps Marathon with REVolution. “These individuals give so much to our country. It feels good to know that I’m making a big difference in the lives of true heroes.”

One veteran who will experience REVolution’s positive impact is Mike Savicki. Savicki’s lifelong dream of becoming a U.S. Navy fighter pilot was cut short due to a spinal cord injury which left him paralyzed.

“Paralyzed Veterans of America has been there with me since the beginning of my injury and they have never once left my side. Their support and advocacy has made it possible for me to do more with my life than I ever imagined possible,’ said Savicki.

REVolution runners raise funds to support Paralyzed Veterans’ many nationwide efforts benefitting veterans with spinal cord injuries and their families, including:

  • spinal cord research and education at leading universities to identify best treatments and a cure for paralysis
  • advocacy and legislative affairs work on veterans and disability issues
  • recreational rehabilitation services and an adaptive sports program
  • a network of over 70 Paralyzed Veterans service offices, staffed with full-time professionals who help veterans with their benefits and ensure quality health care throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs
